Foodie Weekend in Kinsale, Co. Cork
Foodie Weekend in Kinsale, Co. Cork
If Ireland’s south coast is referred to as the Gourmet Riviera with Cork being the Gourmet Capital of Ireland, then it’s fair to say that the town of Kinsale is the jewel in the crown and this will be the base for your foodie weekend.
Staying at The Trident Hotel (4*) is just a five-minute stroll away from Kinsale town centre and offers spectacular views over the harbour.
DAY 1
Venture out amongst the narrow medieval lanes of Kinsale, pay a visit to St. Multose Church or visit the Desmond Castle built in the early 16th century. It now houses a Wine Museum reflecting the days when Kinsale was a major port and had connections with wine making in France, Spain, Australia and the US.
After the visit to the museum enjoy some seafood delights at the Michelin’s ranked Fishy Fishy Restaurant. If you like the seafood, you will love Fishy Fishy! (Other alternatives can be booked if seafood isn’t your thing).
DAY 2
After your Irish Breakfast, options abound. Take a historic stroll with Don & Barry from Historic Strolls Kinsale for a fun and informative walking tour of the town.
The historic walking tour will take you through the ages from Medieval walled town to the sinking of the Lusitania. Once a strategic naval base and a stronghold in the important Battle of Kinsale it was also the departure point for Daniel Defoe author of Robinson Crusoe.
After the walking tour get onboard Kinsale Harbour Cruises to get impressive views of Kinsale from the water, try your hand at surfing or take a bracing stroll along the coast to stunning (but haunted) Charles Fort.
Later your gastronomic experience for this evening can be arranged at the renowned Man Friday’s Restaurant. This is another fabulous foodie gem, where you will not be disappointed.
