Ireland – Where Great Stories Begin

Ireland’s rich literary heritage really is one for the books. The stories and tales are a treasured part of Irish Culture and can be traced across the island, written into the scenic landscapes and ancient traditions.

Irish Authors are celebrated all over the world, especially during Irish Book Week (17th to 24th October 2020), an annual week-long celebration, which launched in 2018, as an innovative partnership between Bookselling Ireland and Publishing Ireland.

Irish Book Week also celebrates the contribution that bookshops make to Irish culture and aligns with Ireland’s internationally recognized status as a country of books.

Marian Keyes & her novel “Grown Ups”.

Watch here and listen as beloved Irish author & national treasure, Marian Keyes, reads an extract from her new novel, “Grown Ups“, in which the Casey family embarks on a trip from Dublin to the West of Ireland.

“The novel is set in Dublin and it’s about a family of three brothers, and their various wives and ex-wives and kids and adult stepchildren. They all spend a lot of time together and they all get on very, very well on the surface, but beneath the surface things are more complicated, as things always are, so some don’t get on at all and some get on far too well. It all comes out at a birthday party after one of the women suffers a concussion and starts saying things she shouldn’t say. It’s very plot-driven and a lot happens. They are just like all of us, their lives are messy.”
